The Asian Development Bank is a regional development bank established in 1966 to promote economic and social development in Asia and the Pacific countries through loans and technical assistance. It is a financial institution owned by 67 members (as of February 2, 2007), 48 from the region and 19 from other parts of the world. The Bank's vision is a poverty-free region, and its mission is to assist developing member countries to reduce poverty and improve the quality of life for their citizens. The Asian Development Bank began its work in 1966, and its headquarters is in Manila, the Philippines.
