Bashans (Coptic: Ⲡⲁϣⲟⲛⲥ), which is the ninth month of the Coptic (Egyptian) year, and Baiji between May 9 and June 7 in the Gregorian calendar. The month of Bashans is also the first month in the Shemu (harvest season) in ancient Egypt, when the Egyptians began reaping (harvesting) crops from all the fields in Egypt. The name of this month comes from Bakhonsu, the god of darkness in the ancient Egyptians, because it helps to remove darkness, and in its time the day is longer than the night.
