Cannabis sativa is a herbaceous plant of the genus Cannabis, a herbaceous species that belongs to the Cannabaceae family. Cannabis sativa has been cultivated throughout recorded history as a source of hemp fiber, seed oil, food, recreation, religious and spiritual ceremonies, and medicine. Each part of the plant is harvested differently, depending on the intended use. The species was classified by Carolus Linnaeus in 1753.
