Janet Yang (Traditional Chinese: 楊燕子; Simplified Chinese: 杨燕子; Pinyin: Yáng Yàzi; Queens, New York, July 13, 1956) is a renowned American producer. Active in Hollywood since the 1980s, he has participated in numerous films and collaborated on television, winning several awards during his career. Some of the most popular productions in which he has participated are Empire of the Sun (1987), The Joy Luck Club (1993), The Scandal of Larry Flynt (1996), Zero Effect (1998), High Crimes (2002) , Dark Matter (2007) or the Oscar-nominated animated film, Over the Moon (2020). Since August 2022, she has held the presidency of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, being the first American woman of Asian origin to hold this position.

Trajectory

She holds a degree in Chinese studies from Brown University and a master's degree in business administration from Columbia University. Yang was president of World Entertainment in San Francisco where she devoted her efforts to expanding this small local distributor specializing in Hong Kong films that obtained exclusive representation rights in the United States of America for all films produced in the People's Republic of China. Some of the works he distributed were by renowned Chinese filmmakers such as Zhang Yimou and Chen Kaige, among others.
