The Islamic Republic of Iran (Persian: جمهوری اسلامی ايران, Jomhuriye Eslāmiye Irān) is a country in the Middle East formerly known as Persia. It is the 18th largest country, almost the same size when you add the UK, France, Spain, and Germany. It has a population of about 70 million. Iran is bordered by Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Turkmenistan to the north; Afghanistan and Pakistan to the east; and Turkey and Iraq to the west. Among these, it borders the Persian Gulf, an important area of ​​crude oil production, and the Caspian Sea.
