1287 - The Dutch Zuiderzee dam dwells and the water sweeps the village, claiming 50,000 lives. 1900 - Quantum mechanics: The German physicist Max Planck publishes his theory of black body radiation. 1911 - Roald Amundsen conquers the South Pole. 1939 - The Soviet Union is expelled from the League of Nations due to an attack on Finland. 1946 - The International Labor Organization becomes a specialized UN organization based in Geneva. 1947 - Estadio Santiago Bernabéu: opening of the Real Madrid football stadium. 1995 - A peace treaty is signed in Paris ending the fighting in Bosnia and Herzegovina. 2004 The Hungarian Supreme Court annulled the results of the referendum on granting Hungarian citizenship to foreign Hungarians and banning the privatization of hospitals. Seven people were killed and at least 13 injured in a suicide car attack at the entrance to the Green Zone in Baghdad. This is the second such attack in two days. Four members of the Iraqi National Guard were killed in an attack on a convoy between Basra and Baghdad.
