Goran Sankovič (18 June 1979 Celje – 3 June 2022) was a Slovenian football defender. He has five starts for the Slovenian national A-team.

Club career

He played in the highest competition in Slovenia for Publikum Celje, in the Czech Republic for Slavia Praha and in Greece for Panionios GSS. In Slavia, he played in 3 matches in the UEFA Cup (2000/01: 1/0, 2001/02: 2/0) and won the domestic cup with them (2001/02). He was forced to end his career due to a serious knee injury and began to devote himself to the organization of summer and winter training of sports teams.

International career

He went through the Slovenian youth selections, made his debut in the representative A-team on November 14, 2001 in Bucharest against home country Romania as part of the qualification for the 2002 World Cup (1:1 draw). He was included in the Slovenian squad for this tournament, but did not play in any matches. He last started on 17 May 2002 in Ljubljana in a friendly match against Ghana (2:0 win).
