The Wikimedia Foundation (officially English Wikimedia Foundation, Inc., abbreviated WMF) is a foundation that manages wiki projects Wikipedia, Wiktionary, Wikiquote, Wikibooks, Wikisource, Wikimedia Commons, Wikicests, Wikinews, Wikispecies, Wikiversity and others (especially development and coordination projects) . The name "Wikimedia" was suggested in March 2003 by Sheldon Rampton. The name is sometimes criticized for its resemblance to Wikipedia and MediaWiki, which sometimes leads to misunderstandings.
