The Speaker of the United States House of Representatives is the presiding member of the House of Representatives. According to the Constitution of the United States, the Speaker of the House is the second person in line (after the Vice President) who replaces the President in the event that the President is unable to perform his office, for any reason. The Speaker of the House does not supervise the ordinary meetings of the House, his role is more or less administrative. Since January 2019, the Speaker of the House has been Democrat Nancy Pelosi, who became the first citizen of the state of California and an Italian-American to head the lower house, as well as the first re-elected speaker since 1955, when she already led the House in the years 2007-2011.
