The Common Security and Defense Policy (CSDP) is the cooperation of the European Union states in the field of military and crisis management within the broader Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP). It was founded in 1999 and before the Treaty of Lisbon it was called the European Security and Defense Policy. It has a special position within the policies of the European Union. Since 2003, over 30 foreign missions involving soldiers, policemen, judges or officials have been carried out under the CSDP banner.
