Shooting at Robb Elementary School
Mass shootings at Robb Elementary School took place on May 24, 2022, shortly before noon local time. Eighteen-year-old striker Salvador Ramos shot 21 people during it, including 19 children. Another 18 people, including two intervening police officers, were injured by the attacker before he was shot by a member of the border patrol. The child victims of the attack were between 9 and 11 years old.
The shooting is the 3rd worst shooting at a school in the United States and the worst school shooting since the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in December 2012. The number of victims is also the 5th worst mass shooting in Texas history.
The attacker first seriously injured his grandmother with a shot to the face after a previous quarrel, shortly afterwards he headed towards Robb Elementary School, crashing several tens of meters from the school building. After the accident, he entered the school premises around 11:30 local time and entered the building a few minutes later. Before that, he had to shoot two onlookers across the street. After entering the school building, the attacker went through two corridors and then barricaded himself in two classrooms, in which he then started shooting at students and teachers. He was barricaded in the classrooms for about an hour, and the intervening police, despite the urging of the pupils watching, decided to surround the building and did not enter the class until about seventy minutes later. Ramos fired repeatedly at the first intervening police officers, who reached the door of one of the classes where the attacker had entered shortly after the attacker's entry into the building, so the police decided to retreat. He was shot after police officers broke into the room where the attacker barricaded himself.
Full name Salvador Rolando Ramos was born on May 16, 2004 in North Dakota, but lived in the 16,000-strong town of Uvalde in southern Texas, where the shooting took place. He attended high school in Uvald, but did not go to it very often in the period before the shooting. He worked at a nearby Wendy's fast food chain.
On May 17 and 20, 2022, a few days after his 18th birthday, he legally purchased two semi-automatic rifles at a local arms store. He shared photos of weapons on his social networks a few days before the shooting. A few minutes before the shooting, he sent messages via Facebook announcing that he was going to kill his grandmother and attack the school.
According to Ramos' classmate, he should have been bullied at school during his childhood due to significant stuttering and his family's poor financial situation. Due to insufficient attendance, he was unable to complete his studies at the local high school he attended, which he had to argue with on the day of the attack with his grandmother.
