"(Anesthesia) - Pulling Teeth" is the fifth song on the album Kill 'Em All by thrash metal group Metallica. The song was written by Cliff Burton and consists of a bass solo accompanied from 2:28 by Lars Ulrich on drums. Burton displays his distinctive and characteristic style of playing, incorporating heavy distortion, use of the wah-wah pedal, and tapping. This is also the bass solo that Burton was playing when Metallica members James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich first saw him in concert. When they entered the club where Burton was playing, they thought the sound was coming from a guitar. When they saw Burton headbanging with his red hair, and saw that the sound was coming from a bass, they immediately wanted him in his band. At the beginning of the song the phrase "Bass solo. Take one" is heard (Bass solo. Take one.); but in fact, Cliff recorded 6 or 7 takes, each one completely different.
