Federal Association of the Music Industry
Bundesverband Musikindustrie (abbreviated BVMI) is the association that represents the interests of the German recording industry,[1] born after the merger of the national sections of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry and the local organization BPW (Bundesverband der Phonographischen Wirtschaft) .[2]
BVMI represents approx. 350 labels, which means 90% of the German music market.[1] and is a member of the IFPI association.[3]
Rankings
Since 1977, BVMI has been in charge of publishing the official classification of the best-selling musical works in Germany,[4] carried out specifically by the company Media Control GfK International.
To date, they perform weekly classification of best-selling albums, compilations, singles and music DVDs,[5] as well as classifications of different musical genres.[5]
Certifications
BVMI is the entity in charge of determining the certification of gold and platinum records related to sales in the country. The sales levels necessary to achieve certification vary according to the type of product and have been updated in the past to adapt them to changes in the national record market.
