2022 World Swimming Championships

The XIX World Swimming Championships are held in Budapest (Hungary) between June 17 and July 3, 2022 under the organization of the International Swimming Federation (FINA) and the Hungarian Swimming Federation.[1] Swimming competitions, artistic swimming, jumping, open water swimming and water polo are held. Athletes from Russia and Belarus were excluded from this championship due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.[2]

Headquarters

Initially, the championship was to be held in 2021 in the Japanese city of Fukuoka,[3] but because the 2020 Olympic Games were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the championship was first moved to May. 2022[4] and thereafter for July 2023.[5] However, FINA subsequently decided to hold an extraordinary championship in the year 2022. The new venue, the Hungarian capital, was officially announced in February 2022.[1]
