Doctor in medicine
Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the Latin Medicinæ Doctor means "Professor of Medicine".
United States and Canada
It is a first professional degree (qualifying degree) in some countries, including the United States and Canada, although training begins after you have earned at least 90 credits of college work.
Commonwealth of Nations
In the UK and Australia, the MD is a high academic research doctorate degree that resembles a Ph.D. In Great Britain and many Commonwealth countries, the bachelor of medical qualification is more like the Bachelor of Medical Sciences, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS or BMBS or MBCHB).
