Frederick Charles "Fred" Willard (Cleveland, Ohio, September 18, 1933-Los Angeles, California, May 16, 2020) [1] was an American comedian and actor, popular for his skills in improv comedy. He was known for his performances in films such as WALLE, American Wedding, and Fifty Shades of Black, as well as his participation in Christopher Guest's mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap, The Expert, Very Important Dogs, and Great Musicians. . He received three Emmy nominations for his recurring role on the television series Everybody Loves Raymond. [2] He also appeared on the Modern Family series as the character Frank Dunphy, Phil's father, and Haley's grandfather, Alex and Luke. [ 3] He passed away in Los Angeles on May 16, 2020 at the age of 86 of natural causes. The announcement was made by his daughter Hope. [4]
