The Australian Jar[2] (Tadorna tadornoides) is a species of anseriform bird in the family Anatidae that breeds in southern Australia and New Zealand. In the southern hemisphere winter, many migrate north.


The male is mainly blackish, with a chestnut chest, white neck, and dark green head. The female is similar, but has white around the eye. Both sexes, like most geese, show large white wing patches in flight.

Distribution and habitat

It is found in Australia, Tasmania, and New Zealand.[1] This species is primarily associated with lakes, breeding in tree holes.
