International Day Against Violence Against Women

Since 1981, November 25 every year (equivalent to the 4th of Azar) has been designated as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. This day has been chosen to commemorate the public determination to fight violence against women. On October 17, 1999, the UN General Assembly approved the designation of the day as World Day. This date was chosen for the brutal murder of three Mirabal sisters, political activists from the Dominican Republic.
