Huygens was a spacecraft that successfully landed on the surface of Satan's Titan in 2005. It was built and controlled by the European Space Agency, was part of the Cassini-Huygens spaceflight and was the first spacecraft to land on the rest of the planet's moon. It was named after Christiaan Huygens, who discovered Titan in 1655. The combined Cassini-Huygens spaceflight was launched in October 1997. Huygens was separated from Cassini in December 2004 and landed on the Titan in January 2005 near Titan's Xanadu area. This was the only successful descent in the external solar system. Huygens transmitted data 90 minutes after landing.
