Krista Johanna Mikkonen (born 15 November 1972 in Hamina) is a Finnish politician and Finnish Minister of the Interior whose party is the Green League. He has been a Member of Parliament since 2015. Mikkonen served as Chairman of the Green Parliamentary Group from September 2016 to June 2019. Prior to that, he served as Vice Chairman of the Group. Mikkonen served as Finland's Minister of the Environment and Climate in 2019–2021. Mikkonen was appointed Minister of the Interior on 19 November 2021.

Political activity

Prior to his election as a Member of Parliament, Mikkonen ran in three parliamentary elections, in 1999, 2007 and 2011, in the North Karelia constituency. In the spring 2015 parliamentary elections, Mikkonen was elected for the first time as a Member of Parliament from the Savo-Karelia constituency, where he received 4,624 votes. He has also been a member of the city government from 2005 to 2012. In 2008–2011, he served as chairman of the Greens of North Karelia, before which he served as chairman of the Greens in the Joensuu region in 1998–2000 and 2004. Mikkonen has been involved in the activities of the Green League since 1995. He was also a candidate in the 1999 European elections. In 1999–2000, Mikkonen was the vice-chairman of his party's delegation and in 2011–2015 one of the party's three vice-chairmen. In the 2019 parliamentary elections, Mikkonen was elected from the Savo-Karelia constituency with 6,204 votes. Mikkonen was appointed Minister of the Environment and Climate in the Board of Rinte in June 2019 after winning the Green Minister's vote with Oras Tynkkysen's 29–28 votes. After the fall of the slope government, Mikkonen continued as the Minister of the Environment and Climate of the Marin government. In October 2021, Mikkonen was elected Minister of the Interior until the end of the 2019–2023 parliamentary term, when Maria Ohisalo was on parental leave on 19 November 2021.

Privacy

Mikkonen's childhood was dominated by Koria. He lives in Joensuu. Mikkonen graduated from Kouvola Lyseo High School in 1992, after which he studied biology at the University of Joensuu and graduated with a master's degree in philosophy in 2003. Mikkonen is married to Ville Vuori and has three children, born in 1999, 2001 and 2004.
