Mixing is the process of making a recording, in which the intensities and tones of different soundtracks are adjusted by the mixer so that they play in the desired way with respect to each other and different sounds, such as guitar, drums, bass and vocal tracks, can be distinguished. Various effects devices such as an echo sounder or flanger can be connected between microphones and other signal sources and between the mixer. The mixer can also decide whether a sound is played on the right or left channel or whether the sound is divided equally between the two channels. The mix can also refer to the adjustment of the sound levels of an electronically confirmed performance during a concert or a parallel version of a released piece of music, a remix.
