A politician is a person who is actively involved in political activities. In Western language, a politician is usually called a person who holds or is seeking a position of political trust. In general, experts and civil servants are not considered politicians. In Finland before the 1960s, for example, MPs were rarely professional politicians; most of the time, they practiced their previous profession in addition to their representative work. With the complexity of society and the increasing workload, almost all politicians at the national level are now in full-time positions. In his text Politik als Beruf, Max Weber distinguishes between full-time politicians, such as MPs and ministers, and part-time politicians who would be municipal councilors in Finland. In Weber’s view, the citizen is also a part-time politician when considering and voting on an election decision in an election. Weber also differentiates politicians according to whether they live for or out of politics. Sources
