Teresa Berganza Vargas (March 16, 1935 Madrid - May 13, 2022San Lorenzo de El Escorial) was a Spanish mezzo-soprano. He was born in Madrid and studied at the Madrid Conservatory. in 1960 he was first seen at Covent Garden and in 1967 at the Metropolitan Opera at the wedding of Figaro. Berganza's career lasted until 2008. He sang especially Italian operas, but he also performed Spanish songs and zarzuelos. He visited Finland several times. Bergganza was not only an opera singer but also a renowned artist. He was awarded the Prince of Asturias Prize in 1991. Berganza was married to pianist-composer Felix Lavilla and they toured together.
