Agnes Tirop

Agnes Jebet Tirop, born October 23, 1995 in Uasin Gishu County and died October 13, 2021 in Iten, is a Kenyan athlete. Known as a specialist in cross-country races, she won the individual title at the 2015 World Cross Country Championships.


In March 2015, Agnes Tirop became world cross-country champion in Guiyang, China, ahead of Senbere Teferi and Netsanet Gudeta. On August 5, 2017, she won the bronze medal in the 10,000m at the 2017 World Championships in London. Two years later, in Doha, she won the same metal. On October 13, 2021, the Kenya Athletics Federation announces his passing on Twitter; she was found stabbed at her home in Iten. On October 14, Kenyan police announced the arrest of her husband, Emmanuel Rotich, while he was on the run.
