The Battle of Lorraine, in German Schlacht in Lothringen, refers to the battle that took place from August 20 to 22, 1914 in Lorraine, within the more general framework of the Battle of the Borders. The battle of Morhange opposes August 19 and 20, 1914 the 2nd French army commanded by General Édouard de Castelnau to the 6th German army commanded by Kronprinz Rupprecht of Bavaria. At the same time, in the south-east of present-day Moselle, the battle of Sarrebourg brought the 1st French army under General Dubail against the 7th German army. These two battles ended with French failures against the troops of Rupprecht of Bavaria, now nicknamed the “Winner of Metz”.
