December 2021 is the 12th and last month of the year 2021.


1st December : in Mexico, members of the Pueblos Unidos vigilante group break into Tula de Allende prison using car rams, which they then detonate. 9 detainees (including the leader of the group José Antonio Maldonado Mejia, nicknamed El Michoacano) are released and 2 police officers are injured during the operation; in Nigeria, at least 29 people, mostly schoolchildren, drowned after an overloaded boat capsized in Kano State; Border clashes between Iran and Afghanistan after Iranian farmers crossed the border between the two countries. December 2: New Zealand Defense Forces and police travel to Honiara, Solomon Islands, to help stabilize the country and maintain peace after days of rioting, looting and unrest, which lasted three dead. December 3: in Afghanistan, the Commander of the Faithful Haibatullah Akhundzada publishes a decree relating to women's rights in which he notably prohibits the forced marriage of women; in Mali, at least 31 people are killed and 17 others injured in the attack by suspected terrorists on a transport vehicle near Bandiagara in the Mopti region, in the center of the country. December 4: First free and competitive presidential election in The Gambia, Adama Barrow is re-elected; total solar eclipse, passing over West Antarctica. December 6: In Burma, Aung San Suu Kyi is sentenced to four years in prison by the ruling Burmese junta after a coup in February 2021. December 7: in Burundi, 38 detainees are killed and 69 others injured in the fire of their overcrowded prison in Gitega; in Iraq, four civilians were killed and four others injured in a motorcycle bomb attack near a hospital in Basra; in Kenya, police officer Benson Imbatu (former bodyguard of President Mwai Kibaki) kills 6 people (including his wife) and wounds 2 others with his service weapon before committing suicide in Kabete; in Nigeria, bandits ambushed a passenger bus in Sokoto State before setting it on fire, killing around 30 people, including women and children; in Syria, the port of Latakia is bombarded by planes from the Israeli air and space force. This is the first Israeli strike specifically targeting civilian facilities since the start of the civil war in the country; in Ukraine, a minibus crashed into a truck near the village of Brusyliv (uk) in the Chernihiv oblast, killing 13 people and injuring 7 others who all had to be temporarily hospitalized. December 8: in Germany, Olaf Scholz is elected Federal Chancellor; India's Chief of Defense Staff, General Bipin Rawat, and 12 others are killed when their Mi-17V-5 crashes near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu. December 9: in Mexico, the accident of a semi-trailer on a road in Chiapas killed about fifty illegal immigrants from Central America traveling on board and injured a hundred others; Nicaragua terminates its diplomatic relations with the Republic of China and officially recognizes the People's Republic of China. December 11: Several states in the Midwest and South of the United States are affected by an eruption of tornadoes which claim many victims. December 12: referendum on the independence of New Caledonia, independence is rejected.
