The anti-Comintern pact, is a treaty signed on November 25, 1936 between Nazi Germany and the Empire of Japan, which are then joined by other states with fascist governments, with fascist tendencies or supporting the Axis for political reasons.

History

Occupying Manchoukuo since 1931, the Imperial Japanese Army clashes with the Red Army on the borders of Siberia and the Mongolian People's Republic. This tension allows anti-Communist Germany to draw closer to Japan. On November 25, 1936, Germany and Japan signed the anti-Comintern pact. According to the public text, this agreement is intended to counter the Communist International (Third International). According to a secret protocol, the two countries lend each other aid (military assistance) if one of the two is attacked by the USSR. The Hitler regime insists that the Kingdom of Italy adhere to this pact. Mussolini signed this treaty a year later, on November 6, 1937. The Kingdom of Hungary adhered to it in turn on February 25, 1939 and Franco's Spain on March 27, 1939. Finland signed the pact on November 25, 1941, when the Continuation War began. Under threat of the establishment of a Nazi government and territorial dismemberment, the Danish government of Thorvald Stauning signed the pact on November 25. This forced participation was canceled when Denmark was liberated on May 9, 1945.
