The Hungarian national football team played the sixth match of 2022 against England on June 14, 2022. This was the 972nd match of the Hungarian national football team. The match was the fourth round of the 2022–23 UEFA Nations League A. Hungary won the match 4-0, which was a result that had not been seen for decades from England's point of view, and in terms of matches against each other. England were last beaten by four goals in an invitational tournament against Brazil in 1964. The last time they were conceded at home by at least four goals was in 1928, when they lost 5–1 against Scotland. It's only the second time in their history that England have been beaten by at least four goals without conceding a goal. The first was a friendly match against Yugoslavia (5–0) in 1958. On the home field, however, this was their first defeat without scoring, with at least four goals. Since the memorable 6:3 in 1953, this was the first match in which the Hungarian national team won away from England, as well as the first in which England conceded at least four goals from any national team at home. Roland Sallai became the first Hungarian player since the 1953 match to score two goals away from home against England. Then Ferenc Puskás scored two goals and Nándor Hidegkuti three goals. In addition, this was England's heaviest defeat under Gareth Southgate.

Location

The meeting was held at the Molineux Stadium in Wolverhampton.
