Áron Szilágyi (Budapest, January 14, 1990 -) is a three-time Olympic, world and European champion Hungarian swordsman. He is a competitor of Vasas SC.

Sports career

His educator was György Gerevich. In 2006, he finished fifth at the World Cadet Championships. He was 31st among the juniors. He was ninth on the same team. He won a gold medal at the junior European Championships in Poznań and was sixth on the team. In 2007, he was a European Cadet Champion both individually and as a team. He took second place at the World Cadet Championship the same year. In the same year, he won the gold medal at the World Championships in St. Petersburg - as a partner of Tamás Decsi, Balázs Lontay and Zsolt Nemcsik - in the team and 42nd place. He finished second in the junior European Championships in Prague, both individually and as a team. In 2008 he finished sixth in the junior World Championships individually and first in the team. He was 18th in the individual championship and seventh in the team at the European Championships. At the age of 18, he was ranked among the top 16 at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He finished seventh in the team. He won a silver medal in the team at the junior European Championships in Amsterdam. He won the Hungarian championship at the end of the year. After the death of György Gerevich in August 2008, master coach Béla Somlai helped with the preparation. He proved to be the best at the U23 European Championships in Debrecen. He was 4th in the adult European Championship team and 30th in the individual. He was 13th at the World Championships in Antalya and third in the team. He won a gold medal in the junior European Championships and was sixth in the team. At the 2010 World Championships, he was third in the individual and ninth in the team. He finished 11th in sixth team at the European Championships. He finished 6th at the World Championships in Paris, finishing 10th on the team. He finished sixth in the Hungarian championship. At the 2011 Catania World Fencing Championships, he was defeated by Germany’s Nicolas Limbach in the quarterfinals, finishing in sixth place in the swordsman race. He was also sixth on the team. He won a bronze medal at the European Championships. He finished sixth on the team. He won the individual Hungarian championship. In 2012, he finished with a gold medal in the final World Cup before the Olympic Games for Men Swordsmen in Chicago. He finished 24th in the European Championships individually and eighth in the team. At the 2012 London Olympics, the sword started in the individual event in 32nd place, winning 15-1 here against Peng Kean Yu of Malaysia. In the next round, defending champion Chung Mant of China beat 15-10. Among the eight, he advanced 15-13 against German Max Hartung. In the semi-finals, Russia's Nikolai Kovalev made it 15-7. In the final, he already led 8-1 against Italy's Diego Occhiuzzi, and eventually became the Olympic champion with a final score of 15-8. He won Hungary's first gold medal at the 2012 Olympics. At the 2013 European Championships in Zagreb, he finished 18th individually and second in the team - Csaba Gáll, Csanád Gémesi and Nikolász Iliász. At the World Championships in Budapest, he was knocked out in the semi-finals of 14-15 by Nikolai Kovalev, a Russian silver medalist, in the semi-finals. During the World Championships, he was elected to the Athletes' Committee of the International Fencing Federation. He was eliminated in the individual competition of the European Championship in the 16th place, finishing sixth in the team. He finished fifth in the individual competition of the World Championship and third in the team. In 2015, he won the European Championship individually and the bronze medal in the team. He finished sixth in the individual championship at the World Championships. From September 2015, András Decsi took over the management of his trainings instead of Béla Somlai.
