The 1903 denomination for the year has been in use since the early Medieval period, when the Anno Domini (A.D.) calendar era became the common method in Europe for naming years. Beginning in 1903, the Gregorian calendar was calculated 13 days after the Julian calendar, which remained in use in certain countries until 1923.
