Birmingham is a city and metropolitan district in the West Midlands, England. Birmingham is the second largest city in the United Kingdom with a population of 1,001,200 (2005 est.)

History

It started as a small town in 1166. Many industries flourished in Birmingham during the 18th and 19th centuries. Including the manufacture of weapons and food. Queen Victoria granted city status to Birmingham in 1889. Played a major role in the war effort in World Wars I and II. After all, the industry had dwindled since the end of the war.
