Encyclopædia Britannica is an English-language general encyclopedia published by Encyclopædia Britannica, Inc. and is the world's oldest published encyclopedia. Considered by many to be the ultimate authority in this field, his articles are usually considered accurate, reliable, and well written. The articles and images number around 100,000 with about 4000 people as contributors. This encyclopedia was first compiled in book form and was first published in 1768 in Edinburgh, Scotland as its popularity grew. When the third edition was published in 1801, the encyclopedia was compiled into 21 volumes. In 1901, the publication of the Encyclopædia Britannica moved to the United States. At present, this encyclopedia has also opened an online encyclopedia website which is updated daily and can be obtained in the form of DVD-ROM or CD-ROM. Since 2012 they have decided to discontinue the print edition and will only focus on the digital edition.
