Rotuma Day is an annual celebration every 13 May on Rotuma Island, a Fiji dependency. This celebration commemorates the surrender of the island to the United Kingdom on 13 May 1881. Rotuma Island is a small island located about 400 km north of the Fiji Islands. This celebration is usually held on the weekend closest to the 13th of May. Every year this celebration is attended by a delegation of representatives of the Government of Fiji consisting of a number of ministers. This opportunity was also used for the delegation to review various development projects carried out by the Fiji Government on Rotuma Island. Rotuma Day is also celebrated by the people of Rotuma, including by children, by dancing. This celebration is also held in Suva, the capital of Fiji.
