The beluga whale or white whale (Delphinapterus leucas) is a type of cetacean found in the Arctic and surrounding marine waters. The beluga is one of 2 types of whales in the family Monodontidae, along with the Narwhal, or horned whale. This marine mammal is known commonly as the beluga or sea canary, due to its characteristic high pitched voice. The length of the beluga can reach 5 meters with a white body color, while the head is in the shape of a melon, so this whale is also called a melonhead whale.
