Pentecost (from Greek: Πεντηκοστή [ἡμέρα], Pentēkostē [hēmera], "[the fiftieth day]"), or White Sunday, is a Christian feast commemorating the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the apostles in Jerusalem, 50 days after the resurrection of Jesus Christ. On the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit was poured out in accordance with what Jesus had promised after his ascension into heaven. According to the Bible, the disciples of Jesus succeeded in converting three thousand souls on that day and this is called the birth of the first church (Source: Acts chapter 2). Previously Pentecost was a great Jewish religious feast called Shavuot or the festival of harvest.
The promise of the sending of the Holy Spirit
On the last night before Jesus Christ was arrested and then crucified, He informed His disciples of the coming of the Holy Spirit as a promise of participation.
(Jesus said :) "I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, that he may be with you forever, the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it does not see him and does not know him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. "
(Jesus said :) "The Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you."
(Jesus said :) "If the Comforter, whom I will send from the Father, is come, which is the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me."
(Jesus said :) "But verily I say unto you, It shall be more profitable for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I go, I will send him unto you. coming, he will convict the world of sin, of righteousness and of judgment, of sin, because they still do not believe in me, of righteousness, because I went to the Father and you no longer see me, of judgment, because the ruler of this world has been condemned. After Jesus had risen from the dead, He said again about this:
(Jesus said :) "And I will send you what my Father has promised. But you must stay in this city until you are endowed with power from on high." Just before Jesus ascended to heaven, He said again:
(Jesus said :) "But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth."
The first (Christian) day of Pentecost
Events on students
When the day of Pentecost (Jews) came, all the believers gathered in one place. Suddenly there came down from heaven a sound like the rushing of a mighty wind, which filled all the house where they were sitting; and there appeared to them tongues like flames of fire scattered and perched on each of them. They were filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
The views of the hearing Jews
At that time in Jerusalem lived righteous Jews from all nations under heaven. When the sound came down, a crowd gathered. They were confused because they each heard the apostles speak in their own language. And they were all amazed and marveled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? the Parthians, the Medes, the Elamites, the inhabitants of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the regions of Libya near Cyrene, the Roman emigrants,
