Wikimedia Foundation, Inc. (WMF or Wikimedia only; Indonesian: Wikimedia Foundation) is the central organization of Wikipedia, Wiktionary, Wikiquote, Wikibooks, Wikisource, Wikispecies, Wikiversity and the Meta-Wiki collaborative projects. Wikimedia is a non-profit organization under the laws of Florida, United States of America. The aim of this foundation is to support the development of free knowledge, projects based on WikiWiki and to provide the content of this project to the general public freely and free of charge, without advertising.

History

The existence of Wikimedia was officially announced by CEO (director) Bomis and co-founder of Wikipedia, Jimbo Wales on June 30, 2003. The name "Wikimedia" was assigned by Sheldon Rampton in a post on the WikiEN-l mailing list in March 2003. Then the domain name wikimedia.org and wikimediafoundation.org were acquired for the Wikipedia foundation by a contributor, Daniel Mayer.

Governance

WMF is managed by a Board of Trustees and headed by an Executive Director. There is also an Advisory Board.

Supervisory Board

The Supervisory Board is the highest institution of WMF. Executive Director

The WMF Executive Director leads a professional staff. Since January 30, 2019, this position has been officially named Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director. Since Katherine Maher's resignation in April 2021, the responsibility of the executive director has been assigned to an executive transition committee consisting of three senior staff members, namely Amanda Keton (General Counsel), Jaime Villagomez (Chief Financial Officer), and Robyn Arville (Chief Talent). and Culture Officer).
