April is the fourth month of the year according to the Gregorian calendar, and the second of spring in the northern hemisphere, autumn in the southern hemisphere, has 30 days and is placed in the first half of a calendar year. According to some interpretations, the name derives from the Etruscan Apro, in turn from the Greek Aphrodite, goddess of love, to whom the month of April was dedicated. According to other theories, the name derives from the Latin aperire (to open) to indicate the month in which plants and flowers "hatch". The English translations, "April" and French "Avril", are used as a personal name.
