Ardem Patapoutian (Armenian: Արտեմ Փաթափութեան) (Beirut, 2 October 1967) is an American biologist of Armenian-Lebanese origin, winner of the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 2021 together with David Julius.

Biography

Born in Beirut in 1967 to a family of Armenian descent, he studied for a year at the American University of Beirut and emigrated to the United States fleeing the 1982 war. He holds a degree in science from the University of California at Los Angeles and received his Ph.D. in Biology from the California Institute of Technology in 1996. After a postdoctoral stay at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), he worked for several years at the Novartis Institute of Genomics. He later joined the Scripps Research Institute.
