Two-dimensionality

Two-dimensionality is the relevance of an object or image to the field of the two traditional spatial dimensions. Width and length or X and Y, in the case of mathematical notation. It is often contrasted and compared with three-dimensionality (3D). It is also referred to by the abbreviation 2D or 2-D which literally stands for "two dimensions". A two-dimensional object lacks the third dimension, depth, and therefore develops only on a flat surface. Examples of 2D, i.e. two-dimensional, representations are photographs or drawings.
