The 1971-1972 Italian Cup was the 25th edition of the football event. It began on August 29, 1971 and ended on July 5, 1972. The trophy was won by Milan, in their second title. After a series of formula changes, the Italian Cup finds a certain stability with a format with two successive rounds and a final in a single match at the Olimpico which will be used for 7 consecutive editions (until 1977-1978). The holder is exempted from the first round, which is attended by the other 35 of A and B divided into 7 groups of 5, held with one-way matches. The 7 winners and the holder are then further divided into 2 groups of 4 held with round-trip matches. The two winners play the final in a single match on a neutral field.
