London Records is a UK-based record label, which originally distributed their records in the United States, Canada and Latin America from 1947 to 1979, and later became a semi-independent label.
The label started out as the UK branch of Decca Records. However, Decca was taken over by PolyGram in 1979, and Polygram in turn was acquired by Universal Music Group in 1998. At that time, however, London Records was already semi-independent within the PolyGram group, and owned by Roger Ames. When Ames joined the Warner Music Group Board of Directors, the London Records catalog became the property of Warner.
Many important artists of the sixties-seventies rock music scene have been released by London Records, such as Bill Haley, Carl Perkins, Eddie Cochran, Chuck Berry, Roy Orbison, Billy Vaughn, Pat Boone, Ricky Nelson, Little Eva and many other.
