The Tōhoku region (東北 地方 Tōhoku-chihō?) Is one of the eight regions of Japan, located along almost the entire northeastern area of ​​the country's main island, Honshū. Tōhoku, in Japanese, means "north-east". The area is also known as Michinoku (み ち の く?), Extends for about 67,000 km², and is home to about 8.7 million inhabitants. The region includes six prefectures: Akita, Aomori, Fukushima, Iwate, Miyagi and Yamagata.
