Samus Aran (サ ム ス ・ ア ラ ン Samusu Aran?) Is a fictional character and the protagonist of the Metroid video game series. Appearing for the first time in 1986 in the platform video game Metroid for the Nintendo Entertainment System, Samus Aran is one of the first female protagonists to appear in the gaming world. Super Smash Bros. and in the Super Mario RPG, Kirby's Fun Pak, and Kirby's Dream Land 3 video games.
According to Hiroji Kiyotake and Yoshio Sakamoto, the surname "Aran" derives from the middle name of the football player Pele, whose full name is "Edson Arantes do Nascimento".
Samus Aran is a space bounty hunter who occasionally collaborates with the Galactic Federation, an interplanetary division that protects and controls various galaxies. At first, her role is to help the Galactic Federation defeat the Pirates, later she will also become to fight the Metroid, a mutant alien race to keep in check.
In battle, Samus wears an exoskeleton given to her by the high-tech Chozo alien race called the Energy Suit. In the first edition of Metroid, the player is clearly left to understand that the protagonist is an android or a man in armor, but by finishing the game within a time limit, it is possible to see the protagonist remove her suit revealing the female sex.
In her first appearance in her actual likeness, Samus appeared as a red-haired young woman, who turned blond from later chapters onwards. Samus' canonical appearance is that of a long-limbed girl, with a medium complexion, long blond hair and green eyes. A mole is visible on her face on the left side of her chin.
Samus was born in an Earth Colony named "K-2L" in an unspecified remote future, the only child of Rodney Aran and his wife Virginia. As a child she becomes involved in a siege of her colony by the Space Pirates, of which she remains the only survivor; she is found and adopted by the Chozos, one of the most advanced races in the universe.
When she grows up, Samus becomes a bounty hunter with the aim of one day intercepting those responsible for what happened to her and averting more massacres. Her good work in her missions makes her known in many galaxies; the Galactic Federation, also positively impressed by the girl, gets in touch with her, and between the two there are several collaborations.
