Overview

University as a whole

In 1949 (Showa 24), Chiba University comprehensively includes Chiba Medical University, its affiliated medical department, its affiliated pharmaceutical department, Chiba Normal School, Chiba Youth Normal School, Tokyo Institute of Technology, and Chiba Agricultural College. It was established as a new national university. According to the National University Corporation Law, it will become a national university corporation Chiba University in 2004. When it was established as a new national university, it consisted of five faculties (Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Horticulture, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Faculty of Crafts, and Faculty of Pharmacy). After that, the faculty of faculty was expanded and reorganized, and now there are 10 faculties (Faculty of International Liberal Arts, Faculty of Literature, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Law, Politics and Economics, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Nursing, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Horticultural Science), and 11 Graduate Schools of Graduate School (Education). The Chiba University Charter (Philosophy and Goals) and Code of Conduct were enacted on October 11, 2005, triggered by the incorporation of a national university. The philosophy is "always aiming for something higher".

Academic style and characteristics

Since many of its predecessor schools were unique, it is a comprehensive university in the Tokyo metropolitan area with many faculties and departments that have a strong uniqueness as a national university. The Faculty of International Liberal Arts, the Faculty of Law, Politics and Economics, the Faculty of Horticulture, and the Faculty of Nursing are the only national universities. On the other hand, we are advancing the concept of "digital scholarship" that converts the materials and research results of each faculty, graduate school, and affiliated institutions into electronic data and utilizes them for education. The Chiba University Academic Link Center was established as the center of this, and as part of its activities, the "Chiba University Academic Resource Collection" (c-arc), which opens old literature and photographs to the outside of the university, was put into operation in 2018.

Jump-in enrollment

We have a distinctive entrance examination system. In 1998, the jump-in admission system was started for the first time at a Japanese university, and "selection of students who love science and mathematics" was also introduced. The jump-in admission system is the first in national and public universities nationwide, and in September 2014, "Autumn jump-in admission", which allows third-year high school students to enroll in September, was started for the first time at national universities nationwide. The entrance system is called the "advanced science program" at our university. [1] Physics course (Department of Science and Physics), [2] Physical Chemistry and Biochemistry Course (Department of Science and Chemistry), [3] Frontier There are four courses: Technology Course (Engineering) and [4] Human Exploration Course (Department of Literature and Behavior Science). As of May 2, 2014, a total of 60 graduates have been produced, and there are various career paths such as researchers and engineers.

Internationalization

We are promoting internationalization throughout the university. For the fourth consecutive year from 2010 to 2014, the number of Japanese students dispatched overseas based on agreements, etc. is the highest among national and public universities nationwide. In 1991, the International Student Center (currently the International Education Center) was established, but its origin is that it hopes to transfer to a Japanese national university, which started in 1960 with two schools, the University of Tokyo and the Tokyo Foreign Language University.
