Senkaku Islands Pioneering Day is a memorial day set by the ordinance of Ishigaki City, Okinawa Prefecture. January 14th was set for this. Also known as Senkaku Islands Day or Senkaku Day.

Overview

It was stipulated by the passage of a draft ordinance on December 17, 2010, which sets the date for the development of the Senkaku Islands. The Senkaku Islands in Ishigaki City, Okinawa Prefecture, were approved by the Japanese government on January 14, 1895 (Meiji 28) to be incorporated into Japanese territory, and in commemoration of this, it was designated as "Senkaku Islands Pioneering Day". .. On November 27, 2010, prior to the passage of the ordinance, a letter of appreciation for the relief of Chinese fishermen in the Senkaku Islands, which was given by the Chinese government to the mayor of Ishigaki Village, Zensa Toyokawa, was discovered, along with a letter of appreciation addressed to Ishigaki Village fishermen. The existence of two official texts was confirmed. About 300 people attended the ceremony held on January 14, 2011, including members of the Diet such as Ishigaki citizens, Takeo Hiranuma, and Hakubun Shimomura. Mayor Ishigaki and Yoshitaka Nakayama said in a ceremony, "I would like to reiterate the fact that the Senkaku Islands are an administrative district of the city." On January 14, 2017, four members of the Diet, including Kyoko Nakayama, attended the ceremony, Mayor Yoshitaka Nakayama of Ishigaki City gave a speech, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe sent a congratulatory message, and Associate Professor Nozomu Ishii of Nagasaki Junshin University was invited.
