Monday or Monday is the day of the week between Sunday and Tuesday.
Names in each language
The Japanese name is named after the day of the moon (of the celestial body), which is one of the seven days of the week (seven governments, seven stars). Similarly, Monday in English is named after the moon. The order of the seven days is Thursday, Tuesday, Sunday, Friday, Wednesday, Monday, and Saturday, but the order of the days of the week is Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. In Arabic and Vietnamese, Monday is called the "second day" (al-athnayni, ngà y thứ hai) in this order. In addition, the timetable of the international aviation industry is described as "1" on Monday in accordance with the SSIM (Standard Schedules Information Manual) standard of IATA (International Air Transport Association). Even in modern Chinese, it is called "Hoshikiichi" or "Reihoichi", which is also the first day of the week. However, until the end of the Kiyosue, it was called "Monday" or "Monday 2" in the Chinese calendar.
What happened on Monday
It is called Black Monday because October 19, 1987, when the New York stock market crashed, was Monday.
In Japan, if the previous Sunday is a national holiday, it will be a transfer holiday. There are also national holidays (only some) that are designated as Mondays of a particular week of a particular month (as of 2021, Coming-of-Age Day, Marine Day, Respect for the Aged Day, Sports Day). This is a date that was changed in anticipation of three consecutive holidays including Saturday and Sunday, and it is called Monday fixed holiday, Monday compulsory holiday, Happy Monday, but it forces Monday to be a holiday. As a reaction to this, the burden on the previous Friday and the day after the three consecutive holidays will increase, so some companies and people may not accept fixed holidays on Mondays as holidays (they are treated as weekday holidays in the calendar. See also Toyota Calendar). There are different disadvantages. If you go to school or work on a holiday on Sunday due to an event, you will be closed for transfer.
Blue Monday Syndrome
Blue Monday syndrome is a problem that causes physical and mental disorders due to depression that appears on Monday mornings (including fixed holidays on Mondays). Monday has the highest number of suicides of the week.
In Japanese professional baseball, Monday is a preliminary day in principle, so it is a rest day. The Pacific League held matches on Mondays from 2001 to 2005 (see also Monday Pacific League).
Most of the barber shops that are members of the union have a regular holiday on Mondays, so there are times when union-sponsored seminars are held. The situation has changed due to the abolition of the Happy Monday system and the optimization regulations.
Since there are few users of public baths on Mondays, there are many regular holidays on Mondays. Since the oil crisis, the Tokyo Bathhouse Association has been obliged to take a weekly holiday due to the difficulty in obtaining fuel.
At restaurants, Saturdays and Sundays are the time of entry, so some restaurants make Mondays after that a regular holiday.
Public libraries are often closed on Mondays. According to a questionnaire conducted by "Library Reader" (Hon no Zasshi, 2000, ISBN 4-938463-85-7), as of 1998, there were 426 public libraries that were closed on Mondays. It is up to 75% of. The runner-up will be Tuesday (44 buildings) and Sunday (27 buildings). This is because the museum is closed on the following day as a transfer holiday instead of opening on Sunday, which is often closed in the general society. However, some libraries are trying to reduce closed days by introducing a designated manager system, and "Monday, that is, closed days" is a past one.
