Nerima Ward is a special ward located in the northwestern part of Tokyo. It is the latest ward in the special ward.

Overview

It is the only ward in the 23 wards of Tokyo that was newly established after the enforcement of the Local Autonomy Law that stipulates special wards, that is, after the other 22 wards have moved from the administrative districts of Tokyo to the special wards. be. The former Kitatoshima-gun Nerima-cho, Kaminerima-mura, Nakaarai-mura, Shakujii-mura, and Oizumi-mura areas, which were part of Itabashi Ward, were separated and established on August 1, 1947. At that time, the route to the ward office of the vast Itabashi Ward was far, and it was extremely inconvenient, which is said to be the cause of the separation. Itabashi Ward established administrative offices (later branch offices) in Nerima and Shakujii, but because administrative services were extremely limited, they were separated in response to the needs of residents living mainly along the Seibu Ikebukuro Line. Nerima Ward is a quiet residential area with lots of greenery, and the percentage of households below the minimum living area level is the lowest in Tokyo's 23 Wards. The average life expectancy of men in Nerima Ward is 81.2 years old, which is the 5th highest in Japan and the 1st highest in Tokyo's 23 Wards. In addition, the number of criminal offenses recognized is the second lowest after Ota Ward among special wards of almost the same size with a population of 600,000 or more. The population is about 700,000, which is the second largest in the 23 wards after Setagaya ward. In recent years, with the opening of the Fukutoshin Line and the Oedo Line, the condominium construction rush has been booming. Since there was a Toei animation attached to Toei Tokyo Studio, Japan's first 30-minute continuous TV animation series "Astro Boy" (at that time, "TV Manga") was the birthplace of Japanese color feature animation (or private animation). It was the foundation of the Japanese animation industry that produced (named). Along with neighboring Suginami Ward and Nakano Ward, it is also the center of Japan's largest concentration of anime-related companies. As a mass inoculation model of a vaccine against the new coronavirus infection (COVID-19) scheduled to be carried out in the ward after April 2021, the ward will be a small clinic called "Nerima Ward Model" in January 2021. The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has provided information to local governments nationwide as a precedent case by announcing a model that combines large-scale inoculation in public facilities as the main body, and other local governments also in various parts of the country such as Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture and Sano City, Tochigi Prefecture. The "Nerima Ward model" is expected to be adopted.

The maximum temperature has remained almost unchanged, but the number of days when the daily maximum temperature exceeds 30 ° C and the number of days when the daily minimum temperature exceeds 25 ° C have been on the rise since 1990. It often records the highest temperature in Tokyo in the summer, and is often featured in the news.
