Yugoslavia's life president Josip Broz Tito died of illness in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Formed an independent self-managed labor union "solidarity" in Poland. World Health Organization declares eradication of smallpox. Moscow Olympics held. Japan, the United States, and West Germany are boycotts due to the Soviet Union's invasion of Afghanistan. The Iran-Iraq War for eight and a half years has begun. Former The Beatles John Lennon was shot dead at the Dakota House in New York (John Lennon's murder).

1981

Prince Charles of England and Diana Spencer get married. Greece joins the European Community. President Anwar al-Sadart (Sadat) is assassinated in Egypt. Inauguration of President Reagan of the United States. Released by Toyota Soarer. Cause a social phenomenon. Space Shuttle Columbia launches on its first Space Shuttle mission. Far East aircraft crash occurred in Taiwan.

1982

1984

Soviet General Secretary Yuri Andropov dies and Konstantin Chernenko becomes General Secretary. Macintosh is released. Los Angeles Olympics held. Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi is assassinated. Reagan is reelected in the US presidential election. AT & T is dismantled. Regional Bell Operating Company is established. The average life expectancy of Japanese is the highest in the world for both men and women. Bhopal chemical factory accident occurred.

1985

International Science and Technology Expo (Tsukuba Expo) held. Konstantin Chernenko dies in the Soviet Union and Mikhail Gorbachev becomes general secretary. Heysel's tragedy. 39 spectators have died, resulting in the disappearance of football's home country England from the international arena. The family computer software "Super Mario Bros." became a big hit and became a NES boom. G5 is a Plaza Accord statement.
