The Taisho period (Japanese: Taisho period, taishouじだい) is the name of the reign of Emperor Taisho, from July 30, 1912 to December 25, 1926. The period from 1912 to 1926 marks the beginning of the establishment of the Republic of China in the Xinhai Revolution (New Year's Day, 1912), the enforcement of the Public Security Law (1925), or the end of the crisis of 1927. Both "Taisho Year 1" and "Republic Year 1" are in the same year 1912. Taisho (大正) is a character derived from the great story of Cheonjidoya (大亨以正 天之道也, great prosperity and correctness is the Tao of Heaven) in the "Adversity" and "Imgwa" (臨卦). . It was a period of civil rights movements, including the Taisho Democracy.
