LG Twins days
During the 2003 rookie draft, the Doosan Bears and the LG Twins fought fiercely to sign him. The Doosan Bears offered 350 million won as a down payment, but negotiations broke down, and the LG Twins offered 430 million won to appoint him first.
However, he was unable to establish himself as a regular due to injuries, and served as a social worker after the 2011 season.
When the LG Twins came out of a long dark period after being called off and made it into the postseason, he was still out of the roster with an injury.
After the 2014 season, he declared a free agent and transferred to KT Wiz, who was about to participate in the first team.
KT Wiz era
After the start of the 2015 season, the first season of KT Wiz's first team, for two months after the start of the season, the feeling of hitting was very low, and it was a crazy blow from June 2015, breaking the expectations of the majority of the media and baseball fans that he could not even take off the tag as a promising prospect. showed off He has hit a home run since June 2015, hit 20 homers by Aug. 30, and has batted a 3 or so batting average. Regarding his improved performance in the 2015 season, he said, 'Thanks to a lot of experience and effort at LG, I seem to have finally found my own hitting form and swing. I always apologize to LG fans, and if it hadn't been for the 10 years at LG, I wouldn't have been able to achieve the current results." Also, as to the reason for the sluggish two months immediately after the opening, he said, 'Most of the blows at LG have been strategic swings such as bunts, sacrifice flyes, and routs. So, coach Jo Beom-hyun made me try a lot to find my own swing and hitting form. Also, because he played most of his games in Jamsil, he caught well-hit bats and didn't play long. It seems to have been sluggish in the meantime due to such psychological factors and lack of technology. Now that I have completely found my swing, I think my slugging power has gotten stronger.” And on July 10, he hit two home runs against Samsung and set a record of 10 home runs, breaking his previous season record of most home runs of 8. This marked his debut double-digit home run in 2015.
On August 28, 2015, he hit a three-run home run against Kim Kwang-soo against KIA, his first 20 home runs on his debut. In the 2015 season, he recorded career highs in all areas of batting, including batting average, RBI, home runs, slugging percentage, OPS, and on-base percentage. On August 30, 2015, he hit a full-run homer against Chae Byung-yong against SK in the match, recording his first and fourth personal career home run. He was called 'Suwon Geopo' because he showed off his slugging power even more at his home stadium. On the other hand, there is a myth that he hits a home run well because his home stadium is on Gyeongsu-daero, and there is a story that he got a so-called post-G effect because he was active after transferring from the LG Twins. Shin Myung-cheol, who served as the team's captain in the 2015 season, announced his retirement and was appointed as the team's second-generation captain.
On September 4, 2016, he hit a two-run homer from the end against LG and led the team to a comeback victory, and recorded a double-digit homer for four consecutive years as the first KBO second baseman. Debuting in the postseason belatedly after entering the 2020 PO entry He showed his dedication to the team in the 2021 Korean Series, and was honored with the Korean Series MVP with KT Wiz's first unified victory.
